Handmade One of a Kind silver earrings with peridots.

What you get: 1 pair of sterling silver earrings on french wires (sterling silver) with bezel set 4mm round light green faceted peridots.
Lightly oxidized finish: combination of darkened silver and polished silver.
Earthy, tree bark like texture.

* One earring has small nook and cranny-like pits speckled in metal. See photos.

These round earrings are just under 1 inch wide and hang approx 1.25 inches long. The centers have see through holes. Earrings are light weight.

I've textured these earrings using the technique of reticulation.

What is Reticulation? It's is a metalsmithing technique that uses torch fire to create ridges and ripples in the metal, giving a texture like a relief map, moonscape, or tree bark.

Want to know more? Let's have a mini science lesson: I start with a flat sheet of sterling silver. I heat the sheet to a cherry red, then cool it, repeating this process about 10 times. Yes, 10. By heating the metal, I draw a layer of fine silver to the surface. As I continue to heat the metal, eventually the inner layers melt and morph like flowing lava at a lower temp under the fine silver surface. This inner melting tugs and pulls the top layer, creating the ripples and ridges you see. If you hold the flame to the metal a moment too long, the entire piece can melt. This technique isn't for the faint-hearted jeweler!
